Ortek balance bridges: a construction set the child assembles with their feet
A 10-piece set: two wooden boards — one wide, one narrow — and eight support blocks. Together they form a bridge, an obstacle course, steps, a bench or a small table. Differently every time.
Difficulty is set by the structure itself
To make the task harder you need no new rules and no extra equipment. You simply rebuild it.
Wide board on low supports — the starting level.
Narrow board — the base of support shrinks and active balancing begins.
Greater height — working with height and moving with care.
Several sections in a row — a route with transitions and changes of direction.
One set carries a child from a first uncertain step along a board to a route they design themselves.
What happens during balancing
Walking along a narrow support, the body makes continuous micro-corrections: shifting weight, adjusting the foot, realigning the trunk. This delivers vestibular and proprioceptive input — the type of input that underpins sensory integration work and helps a child sense the boundaries of their own body.
Unlike an exercise set by an adult, here the child chooses the difficulty. That matters: children stop where the task is still manageable, and are far less likely to refuse it outright.
Adult supervision at all times · non-slip flooring (add a rug or mat on laminate or tile) · clear space around the structure · increase height gradually · check stability by hand before the child steps on · shoes or bare feet, never socks alone.
Dimensions and maximum load are being confirmed with the manufacturer. We do not publish these figures approximately: for a structure a child stands on, an invented load rating is a risk, not marketing.
